Southwest Lansing Initiative & Action Plan Overview
Introduction
The Southwest Lansing Initiative is a priority neighborhood-planning effort initiated by the State of Michigan Economic Development Association, with direct support from Governor Snyder's office. The Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP) was provided funding from the state to conduct neighborhood outreach and develop the Southwest Lansing Action Plan.The Action Plan is intended to target specific community economic development improvements as identified and prioritized by Southwest Lansing stakeholders and residents. Kuntzsch Solutions from Grand Ledge was hired to facilitate the project.

Project Timeline
The development of the Action Plan is designed to be an iterative, flexible process based on the input of stakeholders. With a late August deadline the following tentative dates have been developed to guide the process:

Complete a commercial and residential market study
- Identify new entrepreneurial opportunities (including programs)
- Develop recommendations that coordinate and leverage the diverse people and cultures of the area
- Identify and prioritize redevelopment opportunities along with potential market-driven solutions, both for property and buildings
- Identify and prioritize necessary improvements for public infrastructure
- Develop a series of event or festival ideas
- Recommend and implement innovative zoning and planning initiatives/codes
- Develop an organizational capacity plan to implement the Action Plan
Project Timeline
The development of the Action Plan is designed to be an iterative, flexible process based on the input of stakeholders. With a late August deadline the following tentative dates have been developed to guide the process:
- Community Meeting 1: June 15, 2015
- Community Meeting 2: Mid/Late July
- Leadership Team Meetings will be held roughly once a month throughout the project.
