Supporting Local Businesses
Thank you cards
We have cards to pass out to our local businesses to thank them for being in South Lansing. You can pick these up at any of our meetings. Please contact Elaine if you would like some cards but cannot attend the meeting.
Business Presentations
We are pleased to have owners of new South Lansing businesses attend and present at our meetings. In February 2015 we learned about the new Skate City Roller Rink located at 905 Southgate. In August, we learned about the planned improvements to Lansing Gardens from the new owner Brian Stiles of Stiles Landscaping. While Rejuvenating South Lansing does not endorse any businesses, we welcome South Lansing businesses to attend meetings and keep us informed about their role in South Lansing. Contact Elaine Womboldt 517-393-0317 for more information.
Mapping Restaurants and Developing Food "Hot-Spots"
When we learned about the plight of the Naing Myanmar Family Restaurant we realized we could do more to support our South Lansing neighborhood restaurants, especially the new or small establishments, by making people aware of them. Toward that end we have created an initial inventory of almost 300 eating and drinking establishments in the South Lansing area.
We will be working to identify the new, small, locally-owned and unique establishments and create maps of their locations. We will also be working to identify existing clusters or groupings of establishments as well as restaurants that are not currently in a cluster and may benefit from co-locating near other restaurants or in incubators.
We expect to work with Lansing Area Economic Partnership to identify vacant properties that could be viable food hubs for recruiting or relocating restaurants to South Lansing and potential economic incentives to assist with that effort. We're looking for residents to join our community outreach team as we talk to restaurant owners in South Lansing. Restaurant owners can also contact us directly with feedback!
